Nook Or Bust

I don’t want to say aging has made me a better person in anyway but, rather, it’s been the internal work I have been doing through therapy, as well as on my own and having the desire and want to be better than who I was yesterday. Part of all of this is wanting to make the world a better place and to contribute something that could help make the world a better place. I won’t pretend that whatever I do is going to be world altering but hey if I can at least leave a breadcrumb or two before I die, why not?

The first breadcrumb I started to unintentionally leave behind came in the form of my first music project that many know, VENUS-426. While birthed as something to just have some sort of outlet and to make music, VENUS-426 really started to grow and evolve in a way that I now want to find a way to give freely versus some sort of exchange happening.

An unintentional consequence to creating art I have found, is that if you actually create art for yourself first, and with the intention of putting art over being a product or content, is you start to care about people being able to enjoy it as freely as possible.

As 2025 rolled on and we saw more and more rights being stripped away, climate disasters happening more—and more severely, genocides happening around the globe, and the takeover of A.I—despite what many, many sci-fi mediums have warned against—I want to actually be proactive in trying to make a better world. What that is, is Wendy’s Noise Nook.

Wendy’s Noise Nook originally began as an idea of a “behind-the-scenes” to my music making process with exclusive songs and such as well. While I did consider Bandcamp’s subscription services artists and labels can do, I immediately found that to be way too gatekeep-y considering people would have to pay to access such a thing. That’s when I had the idea of creating a website/blog that would allow anyone the chance and opportunity to come and grab not only exclusive stuff, but also ALL of my music that encompasses current (VENUS-426, Cetorhinus) and any future projects (ie. Eggozactlio).

(Note: after many headaches I have found this to be seemingly impossible but that won’t stop me. I want you to email me at wendysnoisecorner@onenetbeyond.org and I will get to you a zip file of whatever album(s) you want ASAP. In the meantime I will find a way to circumvent whatever I can to deliver my music to whoever wants it, free of charge.)

As I’ve been constructing this site, it occurred to me that I wanna be able to give space not only to my music but also any other creative endeavors I might want to pursue. Which is why this is something I’m intending to use to try and bring a little more freedom to the online world, at the very least. I refuse to continue to let algorithms, monetization, and Zuccing ruin the internet and technology. These are wonderful, amazing tools that we have at the very tips of our fingers! So why should we have to be at the whims of tech billionaires who are more interested in monetizing our labors of love and leaving us hungry and with no real interactions?

I’ll admit I’m guilty of popping on Instagram and hitting a couple of likes and reposts here and there without engaging with anyone in any sort of real meaningful way but also Instagram—as well as Threads, Bluesky, etc.—doesn’t allow for someone to be able to make long, convoluted even, thoughts about any sort of subject someone may want to write about. Or, even make a place to showcase any sort of artistic endeavors without them throttling you. Then, there’s the busy-ness of all those apps and the constant feeling of needing to be on them, especially as an artist. Otherwise, you run the risk of when you do post, people won’t see what you posted.

I know next to nothing about making and maintaining a web/blog site. But I also use to know next to nothing about making music and how to get it all out there. However, with a little inspiration and a whole lot of just going for it, I think I’ve been slowly getting to the place I want to be in making music. I truly believe that just by doing and being willing to have a whole lot of trial and error, I can make Wendy’s Noise Nook into, hopefully, something special. Even if it’s just for myself and I’m the only one seeing this.

In love and noise,

Wendy Venus
